IMPORTANT UPDATE, AUGUST 14, 2017:

THE MARCH HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

- See below for details -

WANT TO REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE?  Help make the 2020 presidential election the first in which the majority of citizens elect the U.S. President and every vote in every state is equal!

These sound like lofty goals, yet they are completely within reach with your assistance. As of spring 2017, the nationwide National Popular Vote bill already has been enacted into law in 10 states plus the District of Columbia for a combined total of 165 out a needed 270 electoral votes, so we are more than halfway there!

POSTPONING THE MARCH

Unfortunately, we recently learned that the National Park Service inadvertently double-booked our permitted location on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., and none of the other location and date combinations in D.C. proved workable this fall, both on and off the National Mall.

After the National Park Service shock we also had to face the fact that despite excellent RSVP numbers from across the country the March for Democracy, including the National Popular Vote March for 2020, has had less-than-ideal volunteer and financial support up to this point, though perhaps much of this might have materialized closer to the October 7, 2017, event date. We have heard that for other marches too most of the volunteer and financial support did not arrive until it was (almost) too late.

In addition, a key march organizer ended up having stress-related health scares after discovering the National Park Service's mistake. She is OK but needs to reduce her stress level.

We are very sorry for the postponement and any inconvenience and disappointment it is causing.

We would like to thank the many folks who RSVPed to the march and particularly those of you who have volunteered, donated, or been actively supportive in other ways.

SISTER MARCHES

Some of the sister marches for the March for Democracy, including the National Popular Vote March for 2020, may decide to still hold their event on October 7, 2017. Please keep an eye out for local listings. Note, though, that while conceptually aligned with the main march effort, each march is its own entity in all other respects, including being responsible for obtaining all necessary location reservations and permits.
